Peculiar Pam

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Pamela teased as “Peculiar Pam” back in high school. She was always wearing black and violet clothes with pink tights. Peculiar Pam also carried with her a pink flat iron though she can’t use it at school. She also wears huge plastic flowers in her hair and multiple wide belts. She was a queer one as her classmates would refer to her.

Ten years later and Peculiar Pam has seriously evolved from a weird and ugly duckling to an elegant and beautiful swan. Pamela is now a fashion stylist and has styled numerous celebrities like Tennis Royalties Serena and Venus Williams, Courtney Cox-Arquette and Jennifer Love Hewitt to name a few.

Pamela’s taste had influenced a lot of people in the society, making her one of the most sought after fashion stylist today. Pamela has conquered many hurdles and challenges before getting where she is now. And it has all made her stronger. If she had succumbed to regularity back in high school, she wouldn’t know her true potential and her talent in style.

If she would meet any of her high school classmates, she would literally fight the urge to laugh in their faces. But instead, she would gladly give them a makeover.

My Dad

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Yesterday, I went to accompany my Dad to the hardware store and the mall. He needs to buy a few items and I volunteered to drive him. I am quite fascinated about how my Dad shops. He is meticulous yet practical. He is frugal yet brand conscious. There are a lot of things I could learn from my Dad and it is a good thing that I accompanied him to do errands.

At the hardware store, he looked at hammers, axes and knives. We even surveyed a few portable generators for sale. Dad was looking for a few light bulbs and door knobs. He wanted to replace those from our house but is not in a hurry since all of them are still in great working condition. He just wants to know how much are the ones that he likes so he can set a realistic budget.

My Dad likes to look at a lot of things especially those new products that just came out of the market. He doesn’t want to be left out of the technology or development of anything hardware. It was fun being with my dad for a day. I did learn a lot from him and I hope to be as sensible as he is.

The Rich Girl

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Melanie was called the “Rich Girl” in high school. She was not pleased with this nickname even though she really belonged to a rich family back in Texas. Her family owns a huge ranch with cows and horses and all those animals.

A rich girl trying to step out of his family’s shadow, Melanie decided to go to college in a California. I was one of the lucky ones who get to know the real Melanie. She was really kind, intelligent and sporty. She is fond of adventure and was the mechanical bull riding champ for three years in a row. Melanie was a real go-getter. She never used her family’s background or money to get where she is now.

During one of those holidays, Melanie invited a few of us to their ranch in Texas. We were really excited and raring to go. As soon as we arrived, we were awed by their huge house. There were magnificent horses in corrals and huge bulls too.

Texas was warm, but that didn’t stop Melanie’s parents from installing several outdoor fire places. We had a really great time at Melanie’s home in Texas. Her family were really accommodating. Plus, we learned how to ride horses.

Midnight Snack

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I was staring at our kitchen light in between bites. It was midnight and I couldn’t sleep. So, I got up and made myself a cold turkey sandwich. I also drank ice cold orange juice since I was not in the mood for anything hot.

It has been two nights in a row. Why can’t I sleep early? I had been tossing and turning in bed since 9:30 in the evening. This sleeping difficulty maybe caused by my current addiction to coffee. Lately, I have been consuming 5 tall lattes in the afternoon. That does not count the additional 3 more I drink in the morning.

Maybe it’s because of my job as well. Lately, I have been so stressed and pressured when meeting almost impossible deadlines. My non-existent social life is no help either. Most of my friends are busy as well and I could bear going out alone.

As I chewed my turkey sandwich, I thought about all the great times I had during college. When everything was hectic yet laid back. I got to party all the time I want but also making sure that I passed all my classes. Where have the good times gone? Maybe I’m just getting old.

Visiting Friends

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

I don’t usually have friends visiting my house. For me, it is a hassle. I hate cleaning up and tidying my apartment. I don’t even have a proper storage for shoes. They are just there… on the floor.

Okay, I admit I am a slob. But I also don’t go to the grocery frequently. What would I serve my visitors? Half of a rotting apple? Maybe a half-empty box of cereals?

My friends have been constantly pestering me about when they’ll get the chance to hang out in my apartment. Over and over, I made up excuses that my light have gone out or that I had no water or I got kicked out of my apartment. But since they are my friends, they know better and this rally hurt their feelings.

Tonight, I have finally invited my friends over. I spent the entire Saturday cleaning the apartment and getting decent furniture. My old couch practically had black holes that would swallow anyone who sits down on it. The finished look of my apartment was totally unexpected. I finally lived in a proper home not a pigsty.

A few six packs of beers, large pepperoni pizza and cheetos later, my friends’ finally got a full glimpse of my apartment.

Amazing Feat

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

Judy is a challenged person. She loves to eat but can’t cook a single bite. She had enrolled in cooking classes but failed miserably. It might be because Judy lacks creativity? Or passion for cooking maybe?

This made Judy really depressed. She really wanted to learn how to bake, cook and those other stuff. She wants to be adept in using the oven, a mixer or even just the measuring spoons. It is a good thing that Judy never gave up. She enrolled in classes after classes until eventually she gave up trying too hard. It was then that she learned and truly excelled.

Judy was baking cookies, cake and other delicious goodies. She also could cook a really mean gourmet meal as well as uncomplicated dishes like pasta. Judy also mastered the art of how to make homemade ice cream. All of Judy’s creations are a delight. I personally love her tiramisu and chocolate decadent cake.

For someone who has had trouble learning, Judy has conquered an amazing feat. Nowadays, her cooking is in demand amongst dinner parties and get-togethers. Some friends even pay her to cook for special events and occasions. Judy is so happy that she can finally cook what she wants to eat in fine restaurants with less the cost.

Summer Fun

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Last summer, I kept myself busy. I enrolled in baking and cake decorating classes. I also engaged myself in a lot of outdoor activities such as camping, river trekking and hiking. I vowed myself to keep fit so I enrolled in the local gym and lifted some weights, done aerobics and even belly dancing .I certainly had lots of fun and lost weight too.

I also got to go abroad that summer. I went to Greece with some friends and the country was absolutely amazing. Everywhere I look, I see beautiful men and women as well as beautiful sights. The food is absolutely to die for, though some people should develop a love for Greek palate in order to appreciate it even more.

After Greece, I spent the last few days of summer teaching my nephews how to ride a bike and color inside the lines. I also attended and baked for a few bake sales together with my mother and sister. That summer was a whole lot of fun. I got to spend time with myself and meet new people, bond with my friends in a different culture and get to know my family even more. I would never forget last summer. I hope I’ll have even more fun next year.

Tom’s Diary

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

I found a diary from someone named Tom. The diary was old and wrinkled with yellowed pages. The last entry was dated 1989.

The trunk that I bought at a flea market held Tom’s diary. I had no idea if he was also the same owner of the trunk. I tried returning it to the seller at the market, but she also didn’t have any idea who Tom was.

One night, I was browsing Tom’s diary. It told stories of love and adventure. It seems that Tom was fond of whitewater rafting and camping. Tom was married to a woman named Antoinette. She was French while Tom was Australian. They met during a group camping trip and decided to elope to America. Tom and Antoinette had two children named Oscar and William.

I realized I was gripping Tom’s diary really hard that my hand hurt. Tom had a tragic life. His wife was killed in a robbery while his two sons were taken away from him when he started drinking heavily to mourn his wife’s loss.

Tom has begun writing in the diary to heal himself as well as to remain sober. He wrote about the time his son William first learned how to walk and when Oscar came home with a black eye.

Enhance Your Beauty with Make-up

Friday, April 10th, 2009

Do you have any flaws you want to hide like scars, pimples, uneven skin, or dark under eye circles? Would you like your cheeks to appear higher or rosier? All of these can be done without undergoing surgery or laser. One just needs to apply the right make-up the proper way.

To start, one would need a suitable make-up and its corresponding brushes. You would also need to have a medium sized mirror, actually the bigger the better. One thing to remember is to always have appropriate lighting when applying make-up. Natural light helps you control the amount of color you apply. You don’t want to look like a clown, right?

There is a wonderful website that offers effective tips on how to apply make-up. This is what I have learned: If you want to wear make-up during the day for just hanging out with friends or shopping at the mall, it is best to apply a natural-looking light make-up. For an exciting night out in the city, applying a more heavier and glittery shades will help make you stand out more. Will you be having your picture taken? Make sure you look your best by applying photography enhancing make-up. This type of application is heavier than usual but it would look really great in pictures.

Smell Good and Feel Good

Friday, April 10th, 2009

I really love how fresh and fragrant I smell after every shower or bath. A confidence booster, smelling great attracts a lot of people. But no matter how much I would want to stay sweet smelling all day, it just won’t be possible with all the smoke, pollution and dust that welcome you as soon as you step out of the house.

This is why applying long lasting perfumes are always recommended. Also, using scented shampoos, soaps and lotions can help too. There are numerous perfumes and colognes available. Some oil based while others are water based. Expensive or not, it is best to find a perfume that matches your personality and, of course, smell great.

Before settling on a specific perfume, you should always do a skin test. Apply a bit of it in your wrist and if you notice a tingling sensation or some redness on the area, it means that you are allergic to the ingredients used in the fragrance and you should avoid that. Also, remember that what’s smells good might not smell great on you. Perfumes and colognes mixes with your body oil and sweat, it combination should be aromatic and not offensive. It is best to try light perfume and colognes first before switching to stronger and heavier scented ones.
