Tom’s Diary

I found a diary from someone named Tom. The diary was old and wrinkled with yellowed pages. The last entry was dated 1989.

The trunk that I bought at a flea market held Tom’s diary. I had no idea if he was also the same owner of the trunk. I tried returning it to the seller at the market, but she also didn’t have any idea who Tom was.

One night, I was browsing Tom’s diary. It told stories of love and adventure. It seems that Tom was fond of whitewater rafting and camping. Tom was married to a woman named Antoinette. She was French while Tom was Australian. They met during a group camping trip and decided to elope to America. Tom and Antoinette had two children named Oscar and William.

I realized I was gripping Tom’s diary really hard that my hand hurt. Tom had a tragic life. His wife was killed in a robbery while his two sons were taken away from him when he started drinking heavily to mourn his wife’s loss.

Tom has begun writing in the diary to heal himself as well as to remain sober. He wrote about the time his son William first learned how to walk and when Oscar came home with a black eye.
